Lindenberg succeeded to catch a part of this unique biotope behind the window of the aquarium in his living room. Who tries to imitate it does not matter what biotope out of the temperate climate, will encounter the problem of such an aquarium;of course the problem of cooling it. The solution reviewed as a Deurlokoeling by Lindenberg himself on the pages 17 18 and 19 of volume 58 (1988) of het Aquarrium . Of course not anyone will have that issue (anymore). On this page you will find a review of what he writes and draws.

The cooling techniques:What will be needed?

On account of his experience Mr. Lindenberg dares to pose that you need one vertical pipe per 100 l. of water that has to be cooled. That is a PVC-tube with a wall of 1,5 or 2 mm thickness, a length of 5 m, and a diameter of 50 mm. In it goes another PVC-tube with the same thickness of wall, a length of 4 m and a diameter of 32 mm. Besides of that at each pipe will be needed :
1 T-formed peace 50 mm
1 verloopstuk 32-50 mm
1 blinde lijmkap 50 mm
1 lijmbocht 32mm
1 steel pipe diameter 65 mm.

This pipe will be used as a drill and so it has to be ca 6 meters of length. We use it only one time and therefore, if we explain at what purpose we need it, perhaps we can borrow it . We can have welded a steel plate with a little mm of pipe on it at one end so that we can connect it to the waterworks because later on the pressure of the waterworks will have to do the work for us. While the pipe(s) have to go into the bottom vertically it would be wise to ask a friend for assistance

Connect a hose pipe on the end of the metal pipe and fasten it well with a hose pipe fastener, the other end of the hose pipe at the waterworks. Now put the metal tube on the place were you thought it had to be, and open the faucet. Slowly but certain the pipe will enter the bottom. Depending on the local situation of the bottom form 1 meter in 5 till 10 minutes. When the drilling pipe is totally in the bottom your assistant has to join the action to lift the pipe vertical out of the bottom together with you. Now the outer pipe, that you closed at the end with the the PVC-cap, is put down in the hole. Make it more heavy with a pavement flair, which can be removed after some time, when the vertical pipe has fastened itself in the bottom. In this way you put in the bottom as much pipes as necessary for the cooler.
Connection:
For the connection will be in the bottom to we dig a channel of 60 cm in depth between the pipes. After that we saw the upper 60 cm from the vertical pipes. Glue de T-peaces on the pipes en connect the vertical pipes with each other. After that the bends are glued on the inner pipes and the verloopstukken are shoved from under up on the pipe. Before the edge has been removed with a file. Now the inner pipes are applied and glued together with the falling off peace. Now the inner pipe of vertical tube no 1 is conceded with the filter pump and after that we connect the inner pipe of vertical tube no 2 with that of number, and so on. The last on with the pipe back to the aquarium. When the connections are hardened out we fill the whole with water and take care that all the air is gone out of the system. When the cooling is turned on within some ours the temperature in the aquarium will decrease till ca 11 gr. C. When the tank is already set up and fishes are in it, this cooling down of course is disastrous . So you have cool down at intervals. In this way the temperature of the aquarium remains reasonable stabile. All these information after the indications of Mr.
Lindenberg in Het Aquarium
